f1 1/10 vintage collection
RALT was a manufacturer of
single-seater racing cars, founded by ex-Jack Brabham associate Ron Tauranac after he sold out his interest in Brabham to Bernie Ecclestone. Ron and his brother had built some specials in Australia in the 1950s under the RALT name (standing for Ron and Austin Lewis Tauranac). Tauranac won
the 1954 NSW Hillclimb Championship in the RALT 500. As a constructor, Tauranac acquired
a reputation for building safe, simple, strong cars that were manufactured to very high standards -- he tended to invest his
firm's profits in high-quality machine tools and Ralts acquired an enviable reputation as the best-built "customer"
cars of their era.
58018 - 1/10 Ralt RT2 Hart 420R
Overview:
The Ralt RT2 Hart 420R is a F2 Can-Am car driven by Brian Henton to 2nd place
in the 1979 European championships. The car is powered by a 2000cc engine manufactured by Hart to the rear wheels. The Tamiya kit was another in it's line of F2 based model kits, and continued Tamiya's early trend of F1/F2
releases.
Specification:
The car is almost
identical in specification to the 58013 March 782 BMW kit. The chassis is an aluminium plate with plastic
parts fitted to it. The rear wheels are driven by a direct drive gear setup from a RS-380S motor, and the car acheives suspension
through a flexible chassis system. The bodyshell was once again a very realistic plastic molded ABS resin shell and represented
the real car perfectly. Original price was 6800 yen.
Collectability: The Ralt RT2 is quite rare, but also not that highly sought after. This affects prices accordingly, and although
you aren't likely to pick one up cheap, they don't go for the extremely high prices that over cars are seen to exhibit.
